Hands and Feet of Jesus in Nebraska

ABW of First Baptist Church of North Platte

The women of First Baptist Church of North Platte are committed to being the hands and feet of Jesus in our church and community. Though small in number, we work together to serve others, share God’s love, and make a difference wherever we can.

For more than four years, a group from our church has led weekly worship services at The Maples nursing home. We sing hymns, share a devotional, pray together, celebrate Communion monthly, and recognize special occasions. The residents have become like family, and we are blessed by our time with them.

We have also chosen to adopt four local mission projects each year. Some projects change while others remain ongoing, but we gather early in the year to pray, plan, and determine how we can best serve. Our mission projects for 2026 include:

    • Birthday Cake Bags for the Bulldog Market
We assembled birthday cake bags for students in need and donated them to the Bulldog Market at the local high school. Each bag included cake-making supplies, decorations, and a note of encouragement to help make their birthday a little more special.
    • Salvation Army Community Meal
The American Baptist Women Ministries (ABWM) group stepped in to provide a homemade meal in June when we found out about the need.
    • October Food Drive
In October, we will host a month-long food drive to support the Salvation Army. Church members were incredibly generous last year.
    • Women’s Resource Center Christmas Store
The Women’s Resource Center supports local women through pregnancy, parenting, and adoption services. Each Christmas, it hosts a store where mothers can purchase gifts for their children using credits earned through the center’s programs. We plan to provide needed items for the store this year.

We are also blessed with a talented group of quilters who stay busy throughout the year. Thanks to a dedicated sewing room provided by the church, we can create quilts for a variety of ministries and community needs.

    Throughout the year, we donate:

    • Baby quilts to the Women’s Resource Center
    • Twin-sized quilts to the homeless shelter and graduating seniors
    • Lap quilts to residents of The Maples
    • Quilts included in the church’s Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets
    • Prayer quilts for members of our church family

We continue to be blessed through these ministries and are thankful for every opportunity to share the love of Jesus with others. God has been faithful to provide ways for us to serve, and we look forward to seeing how He continues to work in and through our church family.
